Total Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2008 There's going to be a total lunar eclipse on Wednesday night, February 20, 2008. Coincidentally, the moon will be full as well. How cool is that!? According to one source I read, this will be the LAST lunar eclipse until the year 2010. Don't miss out. Starting at about 8:45 p.m. EST (5:45 PST) the moon will enter the earth's shadow. By around 10 p.m. EST the moon should start turning red. And, by 11 p.m. the colors will start to fade away, returning the moon to its usual full-moon brilliance. This eclipse should be visible over most of the U.S. and you won't need a telescope, or eye protection (like you do with a solar eclipse). But, if you're pregnant, you might want to sit this one out. According to an "old wives' tale", pregnant women should sit or lie still for the duration of the celestial event, or risk their baby being born with a scar or defect. It's your choice. Contributor's Note I've watched a total lunar eclipse before, and it certainly is worth staying up for. You might want to keep the kids up, too. It's something that you just don't see every day.
